Ingredients

  • 1 lb wide egg noodles
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 medium savoy cabbage, sliced
  • green onion, chopped
  • butter
  • salt
  • pepper

Lucas Bucci is the combination of my paternal (Lucas) and maternal (Bucci) last names. While my my maternal side is 100% Italian, my paternal side is … well they are American—but somewhere deep down there are Slovak roots and this is one of the few traditional Slovak dishes that stood the test of time. It’s dead simple and feeds lots of hungry mouths!

Method

  1. In a large pan with a lid, or pot, add 2 tbsp butter and onion. Cook for ~10 minutes.
  2. Add cabbage. Cook for ~20 mins, covering if necessary–the cabbage and onion should be thoroughly cooked.
  3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, cook egg noodles. ~6 minutes.
  4. Toss cooked noodles with another 2 tbsp butter and cooked onion.
  5. Serve with green onions.
